Seems to me he's being hung, drawn and quartered by Abbott before there's any sort of judicial inquiry. The real 'joke' is that Turnbull was up for the same 'offence' but was allowed to keep working while it was sorted out!! Hypocrisy at its worst.

If he was smart he would just do like the politicians here and have some DR prescribe him some good pills and that would be all legal. Hey, you folks decide. Here is the head of finance in our US senate. I think he is too drunk to drive a bus, much less run our government. Watch this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5Y9X5ggxzA&feature=player_embedded#normal

Is that the first time the Senator has done it?
Maybe he had one drink too many in the House dining room.

http://news.smh.com.au/breaking-news-national/australian-denies-guilt-over-bali-drugs-20100102-lmh2.html

Australian denies guilt over Bali drugs

An Australian who allegedly smuggled marijuana into Bali says he was set up and a restful holiday has turned into a "nightmare" that could cost him his life.

Robert Paul McJannett, 48, was arrested after arriving in Bali with his adult son on a Virgin Blue flight from Perth on Monday night.

Bali police allege McJannett was carrying the 1.7g of marijuana in a plastic bag in socks in his luggage.

Since his arrest McJannett has been held in custody without charge.

"I've absolutely been set up," McJannett told the Seven Network on Saturday, speaking by phone from his jail cell.

"I'm not so stupid to carry drugs into this country. They are not my drugs, somebody put that stuff in my bag."

The Perth-based crane operator who reportedly suffers from hepatitis B and kidney disease has been stripped of his medication and claims he is being kept in conditions not fit for a dog.

>>>>>

Yes we know, the same thing happened to the flower of Aussie womanhood.
Stripped him of his medication?
Outrageous!...human rights violation!

Oh sorry, forgot Indonesia doesn't do human rights...and the Indonesian Constitution doesn't apply to foreigners, we learnt that with Scott Rush and co.

This is bad, very very bad, hepatitis B and kidney disease are very serious, he could in fact die.

Yes, surfer girl described the conditions and treatment in great detail in her book.
I wouldn't let my dogs anywhere near the place he's being held, or the jail.

Bad food, bad water, these existing diseases, good chance he could be dead before the trial in many months from now.
They keep you in jail there until the trial...no chance of bail.

Sad really, that this happens to him when he patronised Bali for his holiday.

Interesting...am I sniffing a set-up ?

Quote
Former political opponents of Robert Paul Mcjannett, who was arrested on drug charges in Bali on Monday night, have expressed shock at his arrest.

http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/queensland/political-firebrands-arrest-shocks-opponents-20091229-lin4.html

Seems he was a minor political player in Qld before moving to Perth and becoming a Crane Driver

Quote
Mcjannett had sat random occupational drugs tests while working with Prestige Logistics over the past "12 months or so" and had never failed.

He also said many of the company's customers - including Henderson-based Strategic Marine, where Mcjannett worked in his last contracting job along with his 21-year-old son Joshua Daley, a Strategic employee - also had compulsory testing which he had never failed.

Cannabis traces stay in the urine of users for up to 3 months...

He's 'gone' because the drugs were found in his bag.
The court doesn't care...all are found guilty...'we only try guilty people' they said.
He was given a urine test after his arrest, not sure of the result.
He might be better off failing it, for marijuana, then he could claim 'addiction', you're supposed to get a lighter sentence for that.

There's no way he'll last 10 years, or even 5 years in that jail.
He really needs to get a sentence with 'months' in it.
Ideally 'time already served' when he reaches trial after many months.

If the drugs were planted, he's just lucky they weren't the size of a loaf of bread like the one found in the bag of Steve and Dee from Melb...they were soooo lucky.

Another reason not to take checked luggage on overseas...[or domestic]...flights.

Of course it is entirely possible the drugs were 'planted'...once the bag is out of your control anyone can tamper with it...here or there.

http://www.theage.com.au/news/National/Evidence-lost-and-bungled-could-decide-trial/2005/03/04/1109700679630.html

The Australian Federal Police say drug dealers are known to use innocent travellers as unsuspecting drug "mules". They have arrested baggage handlers at Sydney International Airport for the offence. Drugs are inserted in luggage at one airport, a photograph of the target bag and its tag are emailed to the destination airport, where baggage handlers remove the drugs before the passenger collects the bag.

>>>>>

Steve and Dee from Melb were "unsuspecting drug "mules"".

Would anyone have believed their story?

God help anyone who faces a court like that. I mean of course they are guilty because bringing the innocent to trial would be unjust. Being a foreigner in  a court lowers ones chance at a fair trial. I mean I had to go to court in England on something minor but I did not really have a chance.

Imagine what would happen to an "Aussie convict" facing a court in Britain?  ;D

He's a Labor Party fundraiser...one of the Party faithful...maybe his 'boss' Kev can ask his very best new pal the Pres for a favour.
That's about his only chance of getting out alive.

No favours possible it seems, what's new, gonna throw the book at him apparently.
They changed the drug laws late last year and introduced mandatory minimum sentences of 4 years for possession of more than enough marijuana for one cigarette ....0.05, or 0.5grams, or something ... Cindy Wockner in Bali told David Oldfield on the radio yesterday afternoon.
Enough for one cigarette, you can be treated in a centre for your addiction, instead of jail.
He had more than that, so he's now standing deep in the mud, and sinking fast.
Cindy Wockner said he's allegedly admitted to using marjuana in Australia several days before he left for Bali...which means he would've most likely failed the drug test they gave him....but he insists the drugs in his bag were not his and he's been set up by a rival.

Maybe so, but his only hope is to confess, even if he's innocent, to the drugs being his, say he's an addict, say the drugs were for his own use on his holiday, that he's sick...and the marijuana makes him forget his diseases...apologise profusely to the court, Indonesia, Bali, and throw himself on the mercy of the court.

It's his only hope...Cindy Wockner said as much.

It all depends on the prosecutor, what charges he lays against him...one hasn't been appointed to his case yet.

His only hope is to get treated as an addict, no small miracle given the new drug laws and the tuff minds of the cops.

He should never have travelled there.

Steve and Dee from Melbourne would've been sentenced to death, or life in prison if that big bag of marijuana [in their luggage] that wasn't theirs had been discovered at the airport.
Innocent beyond all doubt, they would've been shredded by the firing squad or spent their lives in the horrid jail
...10 years is about all long term prisoners live in there.

We give Indonesia billions of our tax dollars in aid.....and we get no mercy in return.
