Seems to me he's being hung, drawn and quartered by Abbott before there's any sort of judicial inquiry. The real 'joke' is that Turnbull was up for the same 'offence' but was allowed to keep working while it was sorted out!! Hypocrisy at its worst.

China sends a message, and we tremble and obey
« on: March 25, 2010, 07:55:37 AM »
http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/opinion/china-sends-a-message-and-we-tremble-and-obey/story-e6frg6zo-1225844947350

STERN Hu's confession in a Chinese court to allegations of bribery has exactly the same moral and forensic credibility as the confessions captured journalists make in Taliban custody.

The confession itself tells you absolutely nothing about Hu's conduct. If I had been in a Chinese jail for nine months and had the prospect of earlier release with a confession or later release without one, I'd confess to anything. It's probably as near to a plea bargain as you'll get in the Chinese system.

The hardest heads in the Australian system understand what the Hu business is all about. Beijing has sent a message to Australia: tremble and obey.

Evidence that the Chinese intimidation has worked is sadly mounting up.
As this newspaper revealed last Saturday, the government made a secret commitment to the Chinese that neither Kevin Rudd nor Julia Gillard would see the Dalai Lama on his visit to Australia last December. This was a change in policy, as Rudd had seen the Dalai Lama in opposition and said he would be happy to see him in government.

Similarly, I have learned that the government has pretty much decided that no Australian minister will visit Taiwan during the Rudd government's the first term. This is a big change of policy and a big act of appeasement of Beijing.

Wimpy Australia... trembling and obeying communist China...

...it's pitiful.

But Beijing's decision to prosecute him, and the ostentatiously contemptuous manner in which it has dealt with the Australian government, was taken to intimidate Australia. [/b] In this, Beijing seems to have succeeded.

The China y'all love.

I truly despair at what the future of this country holds.  As each day goes by, the flaws of this govt continue to be exposed, and for reasons I can't comprehend, the majority of the media refuse to acknowledge them.
The Australian now seems to be the only one willing to report the facts without fearing Rudd's wrath.
Though they did back him to win the election, at least now they are willing to speak out.
The situation with Stern Hu is just another example of how China has  this govt totally under the thumb.
Sure, we don't know what's been going on behind closed doors, but where's all the outrage from groups like GetUp who practically urged people to march in the street for that little weasel over in Gitmo.
And where are all the letters of condemnation  re Mr Hu, from those who  hounded the govt of the time when Corby was found sentenced in Indonesia.
I find it truly scary that this PM , who calls himself a diplomat, and can talk under water, is allowing the situation with Mr Hu, to fly under the radar.
Listening to one ABC commentator, yesterday, I was surprised and pleased to hear him voice his disappointment in the Govt.  This particular person generally leans toward Rudd and the govt. He even bravely put forward the suggestion that Hu and the others have been tortured.  How brave of him.
But Rudd sits back and says nothing, at least publicly.

Greg Sheridan...check out his qualifications to speak on the issue...basically told the radio host today that we should stop being bullied by China, stop all our hero-worship of it, and just have a business-like relationship with it.

http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/opinion/china-sends-a-message-and-we-tremble-and-obey/story-e6frg6zo-1225844947350

An obsession with confessions has a long history in modern China. This emerges more from communist than Chinese culture.

Indeed, those two-bob sages of Chinese culture (who abound in Australia, especially in the less academic arts of the Australian National University), who analyse every move of the Beijing government in the light of millennia of Chinese history, ignore the deliberate and sustained efforts of the Chinese Communist Party to rupture the link between the Chinese people and their traditional culture.

This went as far as simplifying the characters used in Chinese language to cut the people off from the classics of their literature.

This whole story and trial is a pathetic joke much like the joke that is the chinese regime!
It is common knowledge that nothing happens in china and has not for thousands of years without bribes and kickbacks. Hell they invented Gunpowder, Paper, Printing and i have no reason not to think they both invented and perfected corruption as well !

The truth is out!

Communist China is out to own and rule all the world.

It's buying up Africa as fast as it can go...in parts what's going on suuure looks like 'slavery' to me.
And it's started buying up farms here too.
Also started buying up property in which to establish mines.

Wanna get paid $5 a month?
Then keep selling off Australia to China.

Wanna be a pauper and starving?
Let China import it's own cheap labour.

http://abandonskip.blogspot.com/2008/05/china-sets-sights-on-aussie-farms.html

China sets sights on Aussie farms

A senior trade official with the Communist regime, Xie Guoli is quoted “Australia and China have a basis for long term agricultural co operation, since Australia is rich in land and China is rich in labour. But developing such a relationship will depend substantially on Australia’s policy on IMPORTING LABOUR”.

Wow, what a trade off! Who could refuse an offer as good as this? A murderous totalitarian Communist regime with proven imperialist policies of suppression and colonisation, offers to come in and buy up your nation’s farms-probably at bargain basement prices, many of which have been held by hard working Australian families for generations-and then dictates that this helpful hand will only be extended provided you allow them to bring in their own people for labour!

>>>>>

That is China's agenda...and they've even stated it! ;D

China has just sentenced Aussie Stern Hu to 10 years in prison.

Turn off the gas tap.
Tell China the iron ore digger is broken.
Slap a tariff on all Chinese products.
Kick the Chinese ambassador out.
Ban Chinese cars from Australia!

It's payback time!

Of course they did...they took their lead from Asian Singapore that executed Aussie Nguyen, Asian Malaysia that hanged Barlow and Chambers, and Asian Indonesia that sentenced Schapelle Corby to 20 years and took her 'life' away, and sentenced some of the young Aussies of the Bali 9 to death.

...and saw the tremble and obey Australian milksop govts just let them...and did absolutely nothing to these Asian countries in return, except smile and bow before them.

Our weak, wimpy subservience to these Asian nations is sickening.

Excuse me while I go and throw up!

Yes Bu I tend to agree but if we do all this .... China will probably call in all the loans......China sadly has most countries in the palm of their hands.

Just refuse to pay!  8)

"We have no money...all we can afford is $10 a week".

Yes, the folly of getting into bed with, and owing large sums of money to, communist China...Rudd's best buddy.

We had a $21 billion surplus before he was elected 'king'....now we're in the ghetto being kicked around in a cage by communist Beijing.

..baaah!

The first thing we should be doing as revenge is grabbing all these Chinese, Malaysian and other Asian cedit card fraud, food, and drug smuggling criminals shown on Border Security and throwing them in jail for 20-40 years!
...as starters.

China could've sentenced Hu to 5 years...a reasonable sentence.
But oh no, not them.
We should be playing hard ball right back at them... secondly by never ever ever letting them buy one farm or mine here and never ever ever letting them get into partnership with any of our mining companies.

18 more Australians facing charges of 'economic crimes' in China

. Exec Stern Hu sentenced to 10 years' jail
. 18 more facing "economic crime" charges
. Watchdog investigating Rio over Hu case

THE Government is tracking the trials of 18 Australians facing charges of "economic crimes" as it deals with the 10-year sentence imposed on former mining executive Stern Hu.

The clear majority of Australians before the courts in China -- 18 of a total of 23 -- have been arrested in relation to "fraud and other economic crimes", the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said yesterday.
