Seems to me he's being hung, drawn and quartered by Abbott before there's any sort of judicial inquiry. The real 'joke' is that Turnbull was up for the same 'offence' but was allowed to keep working while it was sorted out!! Hypocrisy at its worst.

'Love you'

Speaking of the unnecessary/loose use of words/phrases.............(as in the post re friends) ....

I have noticed over the past few years that a lot of parents when leaving their children be it at school, pre-school or whatever toss the phrase 'Love you' ...they kiddies respond in kind....'Love you'.
To me this expression is NOW becoming as nondescript as 'Have a nice day'.

I would prefer that all of us (adults and children) express our feelings by saying 'I love you' at a time where we wish to convey the message....rather than on cue.

Your thoughts?

I don't say it to anyone and not mean it when I say it.

Perhaps these 'mums and the school gate' etc have at the back of their minds they may never see their little ones again and want to be sure the last thing they remember of each other is those special little words that say you're someone *very* special to me?

There are many, many times I look at the wife and just have to tell her how I feel... even if we're walking down the street... or waving goodbye as she catches the bus to work. But then... I'm strange. :D

All well and good...but what are we teaching these kids??? It's a bit like teaching kids to say 'Sorry'....first of all they have to be taught the meaning of 'sorry' ...it's not just a word to save your 'bacon'.
It should be a word that is used when you are remorseful for an act or deed. Hey.....just my opinion.

Life is like a message board.

"Love you" is all fine by me.

Better spoilt brat teens and others say that than "I HATE YOU!"...as soon as they don't get their own way and can't do just whatever they like.

You obviously missed my point... saying the words means zilch...they can be planning your undoing as they flippantly say the words.

Saying and meaning are two different things....

They can be different things...saying and meaning...but so can other words.

Saying 'love you' is meant most of the time, so I believe.

Guilty ......I always say this to my kids ...I love you...the two older ones this is how we usually end our phone conversations...and I am not neccessarily the first to say it...

I'm sure the parents do mean it when they say it...I think there are lot worse things that could be said...

Maybe I am the only one understanding what I am trying to express... to a toddler of 2 or 3 these words mean zilch. So why get them to say it parrot fashion...the words mean no more to them than a greeting.
I would prefer to teach a young child values... values on all levels be they actions/deeds whatever....not a mumbling of words like a prayer.

I'm of a mind to suggest the child begins to associate what people mean by the words through the deeds and attitudes of the parent... so repeating the litany means the bod is strengthened... as long as they understand this USN;t a phrase or expression to use to everyone.

And to be fair I've never had anyone else's child ever say to me "I love you" even when I've been the sole carer.. so I think they must pick up the exclusivity from a very early age!!

Tho of course if they are simply 'parroting then I'd have had to say it first... which of course I haven't. Some of me would like to try it out on friends kids but both the child *and* the parent might misinterpret it! :)

I believe it is just a delayed reaction on the parents behalf that their parents did not say it often enough or at least that is how they now think they see it with the clarity provided by years of watching Dr Phill and Oprah !

I guess the word "love" can mean many things.....I'd hope that perhaps small children whilst not fully understanding the word "love" would soon sense that it was a feel good feeling...its a bit like asking a small child how much they love you (in fun) & they will stretch out there little arms as wide as they can.....from that I gather that they understand that mummy/daddy/nanny or whoever likes what they are saying & that it is a nice word......I'm not saying I haven't wondered at times about the overuse of the word & just how much meaning some people put into it....I know a friend (male)  (& NO don't write anything into this) who often says I love all the guys I work with & it always does sound strange to me!!!

But, truthfully I think its nice to hear families, close friends use the expression & I guess as children age they will get to understand the true meaning just as they do with most words.....I'd hate to think that there would come a time in my life that I'd look back & regret not telling someone how much they meant to me.

If you have the time have a read of the link below....another persons view on the meaning of "love"

I'm sure the parents do mean it when they say it...I think there are lot worse things that could be said...

One of the phrases that has become more and more misused over the years if "make love" which has now become a euphamism for having sex.

In the 'old days' making love meant cuddling, canoodling, kissing, 'whispering sweet nothings' and the like without necessarily anything more physical than that.

If *any* expressions related to 'love' have become warped thru the years and need pulling back into line it's that one!
