Seems to me he's being hung, drawn and quartered by Abbott before there's any sort of judicial inquiry. The real 'joke' is that Turnbull was up for the same 'offence' but was allowed to keep working while it was sorted out!! Hypocrisy at its worst.

Wandering by to say 'Hi'. Completely flat out at the moment, studying 2 courses and teaching 3, plus buying a townhouse on the Gold Coast for our big move in a few months. All the developments are good ones, though. Hope all's well with all here.

Muslim woman removes niqab to give evidence, as male journalists are barred from court

A MUSLIM woman who sparked a national debate when she asked to give evidence in court wearing a niqab has uncovered her face to testify in a fraud trial.

Judge Deane last week ruled that to make it easier for Tasneem to give evidence comfortably, men would be removed from the court.

The only men allowed in the courtroom while she gave her evidence today were male jurors, the judge's usher, Mr Sayed and the lawyers.

>>>>> >>>>>

A wonder they weren't barred too!

That could be the next step.
In fact, why not just have all-female courts and save all the drama.

Oh integration, wherefore art thou integration?

You get one life. What you do with it, and what is done to you...you have to live with that.

You do realise that they have a similar protocol for rape trials where men are often excluded from the proceedings?

There is no legal requirement for the media to be present at any court proceeding, it is a privlege dispensed at the court's discretion, in this instance the court decided in favour of the witness, big deal...

Arrgh Crimson jumping to the defense of Catholics again?

Removing intimidation people from a rape trial is reasonable this is not !

No legal requirement perhaps but the media is supposed to be in part the eyes and ears of the public. If they cant watch then I cant watch.

Its cultural bully boy tactics nothing more nothing less! Its how they operate.

She complied with the court's direction to show her face, the removal of men from the court was more in-line with the rape trial preceedent thatn anything cultural, the comfort of the witness is always a consideration regardless of the proceedings. Culture has noting to do with it, the court could have also arragned for a video link as they do in other cases.

As for watching, there is no legal or ideologcal ground for having you watch or be able t nkow what tehe courts do, they could quite easily have all cases in closed court and publish a gazette. Because the court publishes transcripts the media's role is largely a courtesy for the sake of courtesy's sake.

Female journalists would have been, or were allowed to stay.

It's an outrage!...that's what it is.

Our culture trampled all over once again.

Culture had very little to do with it, you're making more out of it than there really was, it was a normal decision by the court, a decision made in cases on every day of every week.

You want it to be about something, that is all.

Having closed courts and special arrangments are an every day occurance, you can browse through the transcrpts any time you want, there is nothing stopping you.

Your sarcasm aside  yes it is quiet possible to "hear " a tone in someones text if you are used to their style of writing. If you are unable to do so fine but dont assume because you cant that nobody can!
