Seems to me he's being hung, drawn and quartered by Abbott before there's any sort of judicial inquiry. The real 'joke' is that Turnbull was up for the same 'offence' but was allowed to keep working while it was sorted out!! Hypocrisy at its worst.

Wandering by to say 'Hi'. Completely flat out at the moment, studying 2 courses and teaching 3, plus buying a townhouse on the Gold Coast for our big move in a few months. All the developments are good ones, though. Hope all's well with all here.

Moving house?

That means taking every little thing out of every cupboard and wardrobe.
Everything out of the garages.
Everything out of the whole house.

You would've charged headlong into Nazi Germany's tanks as they rolled into France, guns blazing, and died.

I would've surrendered...and lived to fight another day...in the Resistance...there's more than one way to skin an invader.

You obviously didn't do French History, Le Resistence suffered probably more casualties than the French Army did.

The analogy perhaps may have been sound(ish) but your example was wrong.

Crmson

That probably has more than a little to do with the French army turning tail and running !
I guess right about then though they were wondering if WW1 reparations had been such a good idea!

I meant as a civilian [or in the army] there was no point in committing suicide for nothing.
You get one life. What you do with it, and what is done to you...you have to live with that.

Since when was Gallipoli a story of glory?
It is a story of ingenuity in defeat.
That said I don't believe the significance of the event should be toned down.

Again, it is a matter of your perceptions on righteousness, glory and death.

And the value of life as well.

Regards,

Crimson
I think I could make my position a bit clearer, when I say that there is nothing glorious about death, I mean that the glory does not lie in dying - the glory lies in saving others from dying. Whether you survive or not has no influence on how glorious your actions were.

I'm just weary of people fetishising death and the "glory of dying for your country" and all that bullsh!t.. I'd much rather live for my country!

Immi, I think that what you say about saving others from dying is the crux of the "dying for your country' saying. It's a hindsight way of saying that without those deaths our lives would be greatly different...because we would all rather live for our country.
Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "I will try again tomorrow."

We all die, that is a fact of life, the one thing we get to chose is the manner in which we die and wghat we die for, the glory in death is as old as humanity, to die righteous is the only way to die for your blood to be for something, a whole lot better than dying stuck in a car wreck or being hit by a bus and dying for the sake of dyning.

I'd prefer old age tbh.

As I said before...

He who fights and runs away
Lives to run another day.

... you're no use to the country when you're dead!! Training fighters is an expensive business!
