Seems to me he's being hung, drawn and quartered by Abbott before there's any sort of judicial inquiry. The real 'joke' is that Turnbull was up for the same 'offence' but was allowed to keep working while it was sorted out!! Hypocrisy at its worst.

Hello Kyte, I remember your name from when I first joined.   Hope you're feeling a lot better now, and able to enjoy retirement.
Having retired (I was actually retrenched) a while ago myself, I find it's a whole new world of freedom, and not being deskbound, and stuck in an airconditioned office all day is a good thing.

Interesting that there was a different format not long before I joined, as a friend had told me about AO many months before I joined.

Thanks, Kady, and I hear ya about not being desk bound.  I wasn't, in the sense that I was community mental health nursing, but a significant proportion of it was behind a desk and the a/c was useless.  Then there was just the general stress of being responsible... even when you werent there... so when ill health hit, I was glad to bail.

Thanks for the welcome back :)

Anyway, I have only ever been a part time member (I used to have many more posts, as did others, until the forum got in a godawful mess and we all had to start over)...but in the last few years have been too tired and sick to be more than a passing visitor.

Part time member maybe but highly valued and (of course) an have been an Admin from day one! :)

So, just today, I decided to finally accept Chris's invitation to step back into a permanent Admin role...

... and he and I don't always see eye to eye on how things ought to be run, however he has given me carte blanche, pretty much.

I'd think there is consensus that we need an Admin who knows what they are doing... and I know I get to emotionally involved to be effective! Also I tend to drift down the easy part rather than make hard decision so as far as I'm concerned you're free to do what ever needs to be done to give the old girl a bit of life!! :)

This is one thing that sends people away, never to return.  We only have 66 members, and very few active, and a HUGE number of separate forums... some rationalisation is needed there, too, there's no way that anyone can keep up with all posts in all forums.  I stopped trying a long time ago, and I expect many others did, too.  That all needs to change if the forum is to survive.

My only comment on that is that I find it far easier to find posts I'm interested in if there is some way to filter them out of the dross... and separate topic boards is one way of doing it. Still, as long as we have Tiny Portal active we have the list of new posts visible down the right hand side which makes it far easier to see what's new and decide if we want to read the post!

You *will* be slapped if you cross my line.

Been there... done that... still have the scars! :D

Discussions with Chris will probably have to wait until after school holidays.

Re Mods: As said a few lines back... I'd **really** like to keep Tiny Portal if possible, even after the eventual upgrade to SMF V2.0. Despite us never having used the system to it's full potential I find the sidebars invaluable in maintaining some sense of what the forum is doing... and the chat box has become a much used feature. If it goes it would take away some of what makes the forum usable.

There are a few that add some useful functionality to the system... e.g. the ability to show YouTube clips, and the 'Expando' Mod is handy to cut down the size of photos in posts. Also the Mod which adds an item to the  Menu Bar so we can display 'The Rules' has some use!

No doubt there are others but I can't recall them offhand... and the family is calling yet again! :)

Otherwise, I'm just looking forward to some new action. :)

Think about exactly what it is that you need from TP.  As for youtube clips... why can they not be inserted anyway?  I've been in other smf forums which show those.

So, we will talk in IM when we both get back later or next week.  Because if you want to stay current with the forum software (and you should, because of security issues) you may need to lose TP, unless its updated at the same time.  I'll do more research on that particular issue before it becomes a big one.

(testing standard youtube link)

Which seems to work just fine.

Good to see, Paladin... and I guess you are new to me.

Re active members: my PoV is that any member who is active and who is generally respectful of others opinions whether agreed with or not, is a valued member.  The forum needs more people, though.  Otherwise, if people are happy with it as it is, it should be a closed forum, invitation only.  Might sort out quite a few of the perceived problems :)

OK, whatever you think.  So we won't try to get any new members, and we will leave things exactly as they were, and you lot can have your private playground and all the fun you want, until the forum ceases to function.

I was tossing up this morning on my way home from a photography session, about just how temporary I would be...and the word is "very".  Its no accident that I have nearly no posts in here.

I'm not here to be called a Nazi, and I'm not here to BE a Nazi, and so far have not been.  I am also NOT here to take over moderation, I said at the outset I would leave that to the defined mods and thats exactly what I had planned to do UNLESS there was a dispute or something that needed resolution (implication being that only if mods cant manage for whatever reason),  I'll fix broken things if Chris wants me to.  Otherwise i am

OUT.  Just cannot be bothered.

[edit] and thank god no more notifications of new members needing to be approved.

Kyte I for one would find that very disappointing (ie if you were to decide to leave). As with all things I believe a new broom can sweep clean & by that I'm not saying that those already modding etc aren't doing a good job. What I am saying is that a "new broom" can come up with new ideas etc & I believe the AO forum does need to try & encourage new members etc...besides I believe that your IT knowledge etc is excellent & that Chris really does want to have a break ...more probably so that he can come back in as a member & misbehave (just joking Chris).

"Settle down Kyte!" .... you are taking things too seriously!!

I dont think mutation was having a personal go at you ( I may stand corrected - As I have no doubt will happen for the hide of me putting words in his mouth knowing Mr Mut)

All I think mutation was implying is that there are perhaps one or two on here who seem to like to suggest that there are problems which most of us think is nonsense. In regards to a bit of stirring etc, i think this makes the place more interesting and as long as its not personal is not an issue and doesnt have any significant effect on membership. I am a member of another forum DebateRelate which has lots of jibing between members (that gets really savage at times) and yet they have about 900 members

Also dont take my silly comments seriously. I dont mean anything personal I just occasionaly go off the planet over nothing. (No alcohol was not involved)

It occurred to me that I have been down this path before, many times, and I just don't want to lend credence to the notion that a good definition of insanity is to do the same things in the same way, and expect a different result.

I'll fix broken things, but I was never intending to be a "new broom" (if anything I was the old broom that got broken... and I now realise I am not fixed).  You lot will still have to deal with the dross.  Without me.

I retired recently, into abject poverty, as some of you know, and in all seriousness, I don't want any responsibility for any damned thing, least of all this forum which I have never really attached to.  I thought I wanted to help Chris but I now know I haven't the capacity or the heart for it.  So, I'll be behind the scenes as required, but little else.

Sorry, thats how it is.

Move along now, nothing more to see here.

"OK, whatever you think" What kind of childish response is that! Are we not permitted to hold opinions differing to yours?
Talk about a short fuse and a tenuous grip on reality.
Who called you a Nazi! Whats that all about !
As for your vision for the forum did it occur to you a little consultation and consensus might be in order or are you another in the habit of yelling jump and expecting the plebs to yell how high?

All I said after she bounded in making veiled threats and trying to intimidate Red into shutting up was that there was no problem to address save those people who claim there is.
She could have responded with a reasoned counter argument (if there was one) but instead she had a mental breakdown mumbling  *censored* about nazis etc. If you are inconvenienced by that reality sorry but it still isnt my problem or my fault

Hmmm...I think we now know who called who a nazi. Mu the discussion was ended some time ago. Your constant nit picking over something that has already been finished is no surprise. Stop. I am still writing in black so don't start jumping around talking about unjust etc etc...just learn when something has died it's natural cause, and stop trying to scare off the new talent! Gees.... just stop. You don't always need the last word....so lets see if you can refrain from a post in this thread now?

I wish them luck with some.
