Seems to me he's being hung, drawn and quartered by Abbott before there's any sort of judicial inquiry. The real 'joke' is that Turnbull was up for the same 'offence' but was allowed to keep working while it was sorted out!! Hypocrisy at its worst.

Wandering by to say 'Hi'. Completely flat out at the moment, studying 2 courses and teaching 3, plus buying a townhouse on the Gold Coast for our big move in a few months. All the developments are good ones, though. Hope all's well with all here.

Trust her flood tax/levy?
No.

And your alternative is.... ??

They have $15billion of the stimulus money they haven't spent...they should be using that.

They have $5billion in the budget for 'contingenices', they should be using that.

The annual federal budget is between $330 billion and $360 billion depending on who's talking.
They could find $5 billion if they tried hard enough.
Postpone the dumb NBN idea...there's the $5 billion flood funds.

Simple really.

But no, she and Swan, Wong and the rest of them have come after the People with a new tax/levy.
The majority of the People object!...shown in the polls.

You get one life. What you do with it, and what is done to you...you have to live with that.

I agree with Kady firstly get rid of the NBN Broadband Scheme which I think will probably be outdated before it even gets up & running (going on past schemes I have little faith in this Gov) ...that saving would then possibly pay for much of the replacement infrastructure....and yes as Alec said many who have already donated substantial money to the flood victims probably do feel like they are being hit twice......can I also add that I am a little over seeing the media focus being only on QLD flood victims......many other areas/States have also suffered granted the water may not have come with the same force but people have lost property/income etc elsewhere & shouldn't be forgotten in the media coverage ie Victoria are still going through flood traumas ....
Tai Chi - Mind, body and spirit are all exercised simultaneously.  The continuous flowing movements of Tai Chi are based on the principle that running water never stagnates.  The gentle movements relax your muscles and joints while strengthening your body and mind.

Patricia, you are correct in everything that you have stated including the fact that it only seems like Queensland is the only place hit by floods. Yes, widespread there - but there are other places who apparently have fallen off the radar.

Sri Lanka is in the Afro-Asia cricket bloc that shafted John Howard.
It should go see its best friends Mugabe, India and The West Indies for help, and not us.

Personally when I heard the treasurer make the comment below on a news report , I felt it to be a bit threatening.....are not there other things they could hack into...also I thought teachers were paid by state governments...

"I don't think the Australian people would want us to respond by hacking into essential expenditure; in health or in education, sacking teachers or nurses," he said.

Threatening, and of course, meant to be emotive. But someone ought to tell him...Health and Education are State issues.

That reminds me, I must get on with doing my state income tax return. Oh wait, we don't pay state income tax in Australia! All tax revenue goes to the commonwealth (hence the name) which disburses it to the states. Do you think perhaps if the commonwealth is under the pump financially the states might get a little less to spend on health and education?

Nope. Not threatening, nor emotive.

Common sense, plain and practical.

The claim made by the government's detractors was the the levy was not necessary, that the flood infrastrcture repairs could have been completed out of normal revenue.

But to do that, services would have to be cut. So which services? What are the services that government provides, and that our taxes pay for, and which are you prepared to go without in order to avoid paying the levy?
