It's almost time to move the domains to a parking lot (e.g. wordpress.com) and give up. Methinks the day of the 'generalised opinion forum' is over

So the site is back... thanks (sort of) to Jumba. Where did it go?? I updated the software and it crashed. I investigated and was told the server was using an old version of PHP (5.3) and we needed to update to Version 7.0. Why this wasn't done before s anyone's guess.

Hi there,
My name is Kylie and I'm a Masters of Audiology student at Macquarie University conducting a research project.

The research aim is to learn about the ease of understanding, clarity, and trustworthiness of typical statements that might be made by an audiologist (hearing scientist). Please note that you don't have to have a hearing loss or have interacted with an audiologist to participate.

There is no cost to participate in this questionnaire and no payment on completion.

The questionnaire is anonymous and will take about 20 minutes to complete.

« Last post by J.Siu on June 28, 2017, 02:40:24 AM »
Hello lovely people!

I am a Pyschology Honours student currently doing a research to explore how thinking about moral matters and one's sense of identity are associated with obsessive-compulsive symptoms in a community sample (Adults who are living in Australia).

If you would like to help out, you can simply fill in an online survey! The ethical aspects of this research have been approved by the ANU Human Research Ethics Committee (Protocol 2017/267). You may refer to the information sheet for more details before the start of the survey.

Here is the link of the survey:

Your participation can provide insights that guide future research in OCD. Thank you so much for your precious help!

However you do not have to splurge over a thousand dollars on a designer dress when you may put on a seamless physique trimming shapewear beneath it and obtain the same impact.

Technobabble / The sad demise of hosting services.
« Last post by Chris on May 28, 2017, 02:10:28 PM »
When I started out knocking up the occasional website I joined Aussie Hosts (I think... it was a long time ago). Over time, Aussie Hosts became Aussie HQ after it was taken over. I moved us over to Jumba because there was a 'split' between serious business users and everyone else. Everyone else went to Jumba. No complaints tho as we all shared the same great support services.

Then Aussie got taken over by Uber (or whatever it was called back then) and then Uber was taken over by Melbourne IT, and then *they* were bought by NetRegistry. The net result (no pun) is that nobody seemed to know who was supporting whom and it took a *week* to establish that were are still with Jumba for support (despite having been redirected *twice* to NetRegistry support services) and haven't been migrated across to NetRegistry - yet.

It's totally infuriating that a 30 second fix (literally) took so long to accomplish. We're going to have to move hosts. I am *not* putting up with this level of service.

The Lounge. / Tophatter and other online auction/market sites.
« Last post by Chris on May 18, 2017, 12:34:25 PM »
Don't know if many of you have used some of the online markets or auction sites that have sprung up in recent years but I wanted to share a couple of experiences I've had using these auction sites.

Most of the things are Chinese in origin (or at least the goods they sell seem to be) and are quite cheap. You bid from a very low point and hope nobody else wants the same item as you pushing the price up. I've bought a couple of things from them and am yet to find one that is exactly what I would have wished... trying to be polite. For example, I bought a 'hovering globe' that doesn't hover, a really nice watch that is unfortunately tied to the Optus network so isn't able to fulfil its full potential for me, a USB SD card reader that's quite nice and handy to carry around. I also bought or tried to buy, a small magnifying lens through a site called Tophatter.

I ordered it (cost $9 inc shipping) on March 29th and it was shipped, so I was told, also on 29th March 2017. So far, on May 18th 2017... still no sign of it. I asked for a refund through the support and mediation service and learned that I can't claim a refund until at least *50* days have elapsed since the shipping date!!

Seems to me this is a gigantic ripoff. Most people would probably not bother to follow up such a small cost and put it down to experience but what concerns me is that if this 'seller' has done this to a sufficient number of people, the interest they earn on the deposits could eventually become quite substantial let alone never returning the purchase price!!

I've complained yet again to Tophatter and am awaiting a response but to be honest I think I've seen the last of the lens and more importantly... my $9.

Be warned, you *might* strike a bargain but it's more likely you'll be ripped off or be less than pleased with what you bought! Buyer beware.  :(
